I descend down from the Dragons Tooth ridge and walk to the Dalesville-Troutville Interchange on US I-81.
I read Chapter 18 of the Tao te Ching, translated by Steven Mitchell
“When the great Tao is forgotten,
goodness and piety appear.”
“When the body’s intelligence declines,
cleverness and knowledge step forth.”
“When there is no peace in the family,
filial piety begins.”
I pass a place where a wildfire has almost burned out but the fire still smolders.
This a famous place on the trail – McAfee Knob. A fellow hiker, AM Fog, takes my picture.
Tinker Cliffs – a half mile walk beside the cliffs.
“When the country falls into chaos,
patriotism is born.”
Hay Rock – 4 miles to the Dalesville Interchange
